Upgrade to Xeoma Pro: what is it and how to use it

The ‘Upgrade from Xeoma Standard to Xeoma Pro’ (also called Upgrade to Xeoma Pro or simply Upgrade) is a special type of license that is activated over a Xeoma Standard license to open up the functions from Xeoma Pro in it. After the Upgrade is activated, Xeoma Pro’s professional features can be used in your system despite the original Xeoma Standard license not having them. Upgrade is specifically designed for a smooth and economical transition for those who are willing to have Xeoma Pro functions when they have already obtained a Xeoma Standard license or licenses.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN XEOMA PRO AND UPGRADE TO XEOMA PRO

Xeoma video surveillance software has 6 various editions, including Xeoma Standard and Xeoma Pro, the latter being the fullest of them with most of Xeoma features. Unlike other editions, these two can work together in the same machine, which means that part of your cameras can be covered with Xeoma Standard licenses, and the other part – with Xeoma Pro licenses. Example: you are planning to have 64 cameras in the same machine, part of which would need Xeoma Pro possibilities – like detection of smoke, line crossing, abandoned items, etc. – while Xeoma Standard license would suffice for the rest. In this case, you can purchase a Xeoma Standard for 32 cameras and a Xeoma Pro for 32 cameras, and use them combined.

But what if you already have a Xeoma Standard for 64 cameras, and now that the time has passed you realized that you needed Xeoma Pro features there, too? You have two options in a case like this:

1) A more expensive yet easier option: Simply purchase Xeoma Pro licenses for as many cameras as would utilize Xeoma Pro features. For example, you could add a Xeoma Pro license for 2 cameras to your Xeoma Standard license for 64 cameras. This way you would be able to use up to 66 cameras (64+2) in your system, any 2 of which would be able to use Xeoma Pro features.

2) A more economical option: Purchase Upgrade to Xeoma Pro for as many cameras as would need the Xeoma Pro functionality. For example, you can purchase an Upgrade for 2 cameras and add it to the Xeoma Standard license for 64 cameras that you already have. This way you will retain the up-to-64-cameras limit (Upgrade will not add more cameras!), any 2 out of which will be able to use Xeoma Pro features. The more cameras need to be ‘upgraded’ to Xeoma Pro, the more beneficial it is to select Upgrade over plain Xeoma Pro licenses.

As you can see, the Upgrade from Xeoma Standard to Xeoma Pro is a kind of extension to Xeoma Standard licenses that is used to ‘open’ Xeoma Pro possibilities, even though you actually have a Xeoma Standard license or licenses. The Upgrade does not extend the camera limit of the original Standard license. In other words, it does not allow you to add more cameras than the Standard license allows. At the same time ‘regular’ Xeoma Pro licenses are independent of Xeoma Standard licenses, and can be used alone. They do allow to add as many cameras as there are in the license – but they are more expensive.

Advice from Xeoma video surveillance software Xeoma Pro has some features – (for example, PTZ presets and tours, simultaneous view of several archives at once, API and more) – that do not have to be purchased on a per camera basis. That means that they become available for all cameras as far as there is any Xeoma Pro license (even for just 1 camera) used there. That applies to Upgrade too: purchase an Upgrade for at least 1 camera and activate it over your Xeoma Standard license to get those special features opened for all cameras!

CONDITIONS

The Upgrade from Xeoma Standard to Xeoma Pro product has several conditions and terms of use listed below:

№1 Upgrade to Xeoma Pro works only over perpetual Xeoma Standard licenses. Upgrade cannot be activated over any other editions, or over rented licenses.

№2 Upgrade to Xeoma Pro does not allow to add more cameras than the original Xeoma Standard license does.

№3 Upgrade to Xeoma Pro should be purchased for as many cameras as there are in the original Xeoma Standard license – or for less cameras if less cameras are required to have the features of Xeoma Pro. Upgrade to Xeoma Pro for more cameras than the Xeoma Standard license is for will open Xeoma Pro features for all cameras in the Xeoma Standard but it will not allow to add more cameras than there is in the Xeoma Standard license. However, if you add more Xeoma Standard licenses in the future, they will also get to use Xeoma Pro features – until it drains the camera limit from the Upgrade.

Example:
Suppose you have a Xeoma Standard license for 32 cameras and a Xeoma Standard license for 16 cameras used on your machine. That means you can use up to 48 cameras. If you activate the Upgrade to Xeoma Pro for 64 cameras there, you will still have the limit of 48 cameras to use, yet they will all be able to use Xeoma Pro features.

As time goes by, you can add another Xeoma Standard license for 16 cameras, and all of them will get Xeoma Pro features too. That would take up all of cameras from the Upgrade (32+16+16=64), so any Xeoma Standard licenses that you add afterwards will not be covered by the Upgrade to Xeoma Pro, and more Upgrades will be required if they also need Xeoma Pro functions.

№4.1. Upgrade to Xeoma Pro does not extend the updates period of the Xeoma Standard license it is used with. After you activate an Upgrade to Xeoma Pro, you will still have the same updates period from the Xeoma Standard license. If several Xeoma Standard licenses are used, the Upgrade will be tied to the most recent when possible. If the most recent Xeoma Standard license is for less cameras than the Upgrade, it will be tied to several Xeoma Standard licenses – the most recent, the one before it, and so on.

№4.2. Renewals: When Renewals are required for the system, you will need Renewals for Xeoma Pro for those cameras that have been upgraded to Xeoma Pro with the Upgrade. However, you can use Renewals for Xeoma Standard for those cameras that are not using Xeoma Pro features.

№4.3. Renewals: Taking in consideration the terms expressed in Clause 4.2., if the free updates period of the Xeoma Standard has already run out and a Renewal for Xeoma Standard is used for it, attempts to activate an Upgrade to Xeoma Pro there will result in a conflict that can be resolved in either of the ways described below:

a) Abandon your Xeoma Standard Renewal and downgrade to an older version of Xeoma that your Xeoma Standard license supports. Then activate your Upgrade to Xeoma Pro in that version;

b) Purchase and activate a Renewal for Xeoma Pro for as many cameras as your Upgrade has. This way you can keep the newer version of Xeoma and use the Upgrade in it;

c) In case you have several Xeoma Standard licenses and not all of them have run out of their built-in free updates period, you can stop using the old ones that have run out of free updates. You will stay with the more recent Xeoma Standard licenses that do not require a Renewal yet in a Xeoma version that supports these newer licenses – and you will be able to activate your Upgrade there;

d) Abandon your Upgrade to Xeoma Pro leaving the system as is – or purchase a regular Xeoma Pro license instead.

№5 If you want to upgrade your existing Xeoma Standard license to Xeoma Pro and increase number of cameras in use, buy an Upgrade for as many cameras as you had in your Xeoma Standard license and then buy a Xeoma Pro license for as many cameras as you’d like to add.

№6 Upgrade licenses cumulate, and can be combined to get Upgrade for all cameras in the Xeoma Standard license in parts.

№7 One Upgrade can be used for several Xeoma Standard licenses used in a single server machine.

№8 If the Upgrade covers all cameras from a Xeoma Standard license or licenses used in a machine, Xeoma Pro Your Cloud can be run on such a machine.

№9 Upgrade is available for Xeoma Standard licenses purchased after 2015-10-31. If your Xeoma/Xeoma Standard license had been purchased before 2015-10-31, you will need a full Xeoma Pro license instead of Upgrade.

IN CONCLUSION

As you can see, the Upgrade from Xeoma Standard to Xeoma Pro is an economic way to get more features in the Xeoma Standard edition. The terms and conditions of this product are client-oriented and flexible, which helps combine Urgrades with one or several Xeoma Standard licenses, with regular Xeoma Pro licenses, with Renewals for Standard or Pro licenses, or with licenses for Additional modules.
