Responses to user support requests. Weekly overview. Part 6.
Q: I have multi brand cctv but i need one software access & any camera offline imediately inform by mails.
A: Xeoma should be suitable for this task – it works with the vast majority of IP cameras and has “Problems Detector” module that react to cameras going offline. After that “Sending Email” module can notify you about this event.

You can download a Trial version and see for yourself: felenasoft.com/xeoma/en/download/
Q: Because the server with windows is not working well I will set up a linux server again.
Do you have to reset the licence again or since it’s on the same hardware it works?
A: Yes, you will need to reset your licenses before activating them on the new OS.
Q: I am facing many challenges with the Motion detector….. One feature could probably make easier my life.
If I have to repeatedly exit the motion search (because the results are not as desired) and redraw the red rectangle in another area, this is very time-consuming and not effective at all.
So accoring my opinion it would be great to be able to extend and/or resize the red recogntion recangle directly in the review mode.
Most important:
Whenever the size or location is changed, a new “Search for Motion” should be triggered automatically.
Is such an improvement(?) on your ToDo-list?
A: You can click inside an already existing red rectangle to remove it from the screen and draw a new one without exiting the motion search mode.
Q: I’m a university student looking for a privacy-focused VMS that I can run on a small, at-home setup (2 IP cameras). Your website indicates that Xeoma offers several options suitable for non-commercial installations, including the Free edition and the Lite / Starter licences.
Could you please confirm:
1) Which licence (Free, Lite, Starter or another) you recommend for an individual who simply wants to monitor a few cameras at home and occasionally record to local storage and cloud storage?
2) Whether any of those licences differ in terms of update entitlement or future upgrade path.
3) If the advertised 20 % discount for educational institutions is also available to individual students like me, and what documentation you require to qualify.
I will be using an always-on Raspberry Pi 5 as the Xeoma server, with macOS / iOS clients. Please let me know if that platform mix raises any limitations I should be aware of.
A: We’re glad you’re interested in Xeoma. Let’s answer your questions one by one.
You mentioned setting up the server on Raspberry Pi 5 and using macOS / iOS clients for connection to the server. The Free edition has no remote access, so it doesn’t meet your requirements from the start. Let’s look at Starter and Lite editions.
1) Starter and Lite licenses both are suitable for a home setup. It all depends on your needs. Let me give you some details:
-The Starter edition lets you create chains with three modules max in them, including just one video source module per chain; Lite – chains with 6 modules max.
-Regarding modules list, both editions are the same.
-Lite edition supports PTZ functions control of PTZ cameras. The Starter edition doesn’t.

About the Lite edition: https://felenasoft.com/xeoma/en/lite/
And here’s a comparison table for all editions: https://felenasoft.com/xeoma/en/articles/modules/#comparison
You can try commercial licenses yourself for free before purchasing if you’re interested. Just download (https://felenasoft.com/xeoma/en/download/) our software from the website and run it in Trial mode. You can switch the edition in Trial mode: Main menu – Registration – Switch edition.
Also, please remember that if you want to use our service Xeoma Cloud as your cloud storage, then you’ll have to buy a monthly subscription for it. More details here: https://felenasoft.com/xeoma/en/cloud/
If you’re going to use a third-party cloud service, then you’ll have to configure Xeoma synchronization with cloud storage yourself.
2) For Starter and Lite editions there are no updates: you can use a purchased version as long as you want, but if you need a new version, you’ll have to buy a new license.
3) Unfortunately, we don’t have a discount for individual students.
Q: Is it possible to draw multiple recognition areas (red rectangles) in the motion Detector (in the Standard motion detector AND as well in the “Human only” detector?
A: Yes, for sure, you can create several detection zones in the “Motion Detector” module.
Using a brush in the module settings, you can create areas of detection of any shape and size. Use red color to define the area where motion is to be monitored. Leave transparent spots where motion must be ignored. In the same camera you can draw several areas.
If you want the “Motion Detector” to react to different areas differently, then use several “Motion Detectors” to draw different areas and set different parameters in those modules.
