“Timer” module – managing time

Timer module icon “Timer” is a filter module that allows to set time during which subsequent modules in the chain will work and break intervals between these working cycles. Thus, you can set cyclic work intervals – determining how long the module should work and how long it should rest (with infinite repetition). The module is available in Xeoma Standard and Xeoma Pro editions.

Important note: the module is currently in beta testing Important! The module is available starting from Xeoma beta version 25.7.9.

HOW IT WORKS

This filter module allows setting the working duration for subsequent modules in the chain and break intervals between these working cycles. Functionally, the “Timer” is similar to the “Scheduler” module: both modules allow specifying when the module won’t work and accordingly block signal transmission from a camera to subsequent modules in the chain – and when it will work and pass the signal further down the chain. However, unlike the “Scheduler”, the “Timer” module works only with time intervals and allows setting cyclic work intervals with infinite repetition – determining how long the module should work and how long it should rest.

Use the sliders to set the duration of work cycles and breaks between them. Different cameras can have different work/break cycles configured. Moreover, to conserve bandwidth, the module can stop receiving camera streams during breaks – enable the corresponding option for this.

The simplest module chain with “Timer” looks like this:

Click the “Timer” icon in the chain to open the module settings. The module has several available settings:

In the “Work time” field, you can set the work cycle duration. Available values range from 1 second to 6 hours, default value is 10 minutes.

In the “Pause time” field, you can set the break time between work cycles. Available values range from 1 second to 6 hours, default value is 10 minutes.

An example use case would be monitoring an ice rink, escape room, gym or other facilities with session-based activities. For instance, an ice skating session lasts 30 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of maintenance (ice resurfacing). In this case, you can configure the system to work only during active sessions while stopping it during technical breaks.

To give a custom name to the module, click its current name in the top part of the “Information” window and edit it:

In our case, the “Preview and Archive” module is connected as destination module, so the “Timer” will determine when recording in the archive will take place and and with what breaks.

HOW TO TEST

1. Download Xeoma beta version 25.7.9 from our website and launch it. Make sure Xeoma is running in Trial mode of Xeoma Pro or Xeoma Standard or activate Xeoma Pro or Xeoma Standard license to work with this module.
2. Add a camera or wait until Xeoma automatically adds cameras found in your network.
3. Add the “Timer” module to the chain before the module it should control, and configire it by setting the desired work duration and break intervals between the work cycles.
4. That’s it! The subsequent module(s) will work according to the set timer.

Additionally:
Xeoma also has other time-related modules:
“Scheduler” allows setting work schedule: weekdays and and working hours for those days.
“Duration Detector” triggers when an event duration in the previous module in the chain exceeds the set time limit (for example, a person stays in frame for too long).
