QR Code Recognition is an AI-based module in the Xeoma video surveillance software. It scans the camera image, finds QR codes and barcodes, decodes the information, and passes a signal to the next modules in the chain.
The module serves three main roles: access control and verifying pass holders; tracking goods by barcode and linking recorded video to the codes it reads; and triggering automated reactions.
Licensing: Additional module. Purchased separately and activated on top of Xeoma Standard or Xeoma Pro.
What a QR code is
The module recognizes not only QR codes but barcodes too — 17 code types in all:
- Linear (1D) — UPC-A, EAN-13, Code 128 and others.
- Two-dimensional (2D) — QR Code, DataMatrix, PDF417 and others.

Capabilities
Flexible module settings
The module scans the camera image for a code and passes a signal down the chain when a code is found. Its settings offer several options:
- Module reaction type — react to whitelisted codes, to codes that are not whitelisted, or to any code.
- Time before a QR code can be used again — the interval after which the same code is considered valid again, so a single pass does not trigger repeatedly in a short time.
- Types of 1D and 2D codes to detect — choose which code formats to recognize.
- Use the high resolution stream from archive — use the higher-quality stream for more accurate recognition; may slightly increase CPU load.
- Save data in CSV report — all recognized information is written to a spreadsheet file.
Reports in one click
The module can save reports in CSV — import them into Excel, LibreOffice, or a database and build charts and spreadsheets of any complexity.
Integration
Pairs with Face ID
QR Code Recognition is often used together with another Xeoma module called Face ID. The combination automatically matches the face in the frame with the photo encoded in the QR code, confirming that the pass is being used by its actual owner.
This two-factor authentication automates strict access control where a single pass is not enough.
