Group settings in Xeoma video surveillance software
The wide range of features meant for video surveillance and analytics in Xeoma software might seem like a downside to some, because each and every module will need to be configured manually for the best system performance. Xeoma has this issue covered: the program includes a special option for group settings that allows you to apply one module configuration for every camera chain where it’s required.
The pros of such a feature:
- Simplified camera management and monitoring. This option is especially important for vast video surveillance systems that involve dozens and even hundreds of cameras. Using group settings, you can easily configure your cameras in groups based on their parameters or location: external cameras will operate with one kind of settings, while the internal cameras will have another;
- Time saving. You can apply the needed configuration to a specific group of cameras in just a few clicks, which is significantly less time-consuming than fine-tuning an entire system;
- Flexibility of surveillance. With group settings, you can easily add new cameras to a preexisting configuration or adapt to changes related to the location and/or parameters of old ones;
- Process automation. For time-dependent modules (such as “Schedule”, “Sending e-mail”) or more complex module setups, group settings are ideal precisely because they decrease the need for manual configuration, allowing the system to handle the heaviest bulk of video surveillance while you focus on more pressing matters.
As we can see, group settings are surprisingly efficient despite the simplicity behind their concept. The more cameras you have, the more helpful this feature will prove to be.
Here’s a step-by-step guide how to work with group settings:
1. Open the settings menu of the module whose configuration you will need to copy for several cameras. In our example, such a module is “Motion Detector”;
2. Click the “Group settings” option;
3. A new menu will be displayed. Choose all the cameras that you want to configure as a group from the list. If the settings apply to every camera you use, click “Select all”. Once done, click “Continue”;
4. You will see a group settings menu. Configure the module as you see fit and click “OK” (the check mark).
Done! Now every camera you chose will display the needed parameters in its settings.
Xeoma has other group features:
- Device list – the option to group your cameras via the Main Menu (the “Devices by groups” tab). You can use this feature to group cameras themselves instead of module parameters, which is designed to simplify the process of finding the needed cameras in your system;
- Unique visitors grouping – the option to analyze various visitors of your establishment and divide them in three groups: new, returning, regular;
- The Multi-server mode – a remote access option in Xeoma surveillance software where you can create and edit server groups in order to connect to them from one client.
