Responses to user support requests. Weekly overview. Part 21.
Q: I can’t connect to my laptop from my phone
“No connection with server “
1) P2P
2) iOS
3) different network, Im using mobile network
I always viewed the camera from my phone and there were no problems, now I’m far from home
A: Please send us your P2P address, we’ll check the connection. Have you tried it while you were still at home? It might be a good idea to try to test it with WiFi connection instead of mobile data. That having been said, P2P doesn’t work in some cases, and we can’t really do anything about it – it depends on your mobile carrier.
If it doesn’t work, you can try to connect using the Repeater. If there is someone who can help with turning on the Repeater service on your laptop while you’re far from home, you can get a Repeater subscription and activate it on your server. Learn more about Repeater here
Q: Hi, from when I started to use xeoma , I have had all the media files mounted on or to my NAS server, ie /mntCCTV/xeoma/.
It is only because I noticed a reduced amount of space on my 250Gb ssd, that I did some investigating.
I see that on my local computer which runs xeoma, there is a /mnt folder in the file system, which replicates all the folders and files which are on my NAS server.
Is this normal, and if so why would it replicate the files etc, as it seems to defeat the object of mounting them to my server.
A: Please check what paths are specified in your “Preview and Archive” module settings. Is there only one path – to your NAS server – or several, including your local computer? Also, please check is you have some “extra” “Preview and Archive” modules in your chains.
Q: I have cameras that send RTSP streams and I need to get this in ONVIF format, idea is to get this RTSP on NVR wich for any reason didn’t want to work with rtsp.
A: Xeoma’s RTSP Broadcasting module is a great way to re-stream a camera via ONVIF for your other devices to find.
But also please consider skipping the NVR and just working with all your cameras in Xeoma.
Q: My Xeoma just stopped working abruptly. I was told that Xeoma makes its error log in such cases. Is there a way to find it via Terminal?
A: Yes, the file is called trace.log, and you can find it via
find ~ -type f -name "trace.log" 2>/dev/null
Q: After online active, the server Service still needs access to the Internet, or does it go even if there is no internet connection?
A: For basic work, Xeoma doesn’t need the Internet connection, though there are features that can’t work with Internet. Details here
Q: If I interpret the HTTP Sender module, it requires a standard websocket connection and sends the value of the set parameters in text format. If not, please send some help on how to create the receiving app.
A: Xeoma can use either GET or POST sending method. You can use macros for the notifications from this module. Overall, we provide a detailed instruction for this module here – you can take a look there and if you’ll have any questions left, feel free to reach out to us.
Q: Does Xeoma support “Mobotix q71” fisheye cameras (including dewarping) ?
A: The Mobotix q71 documentation says it supports HTTP, HTTPS, RTSP and ONVIF protocols – these are the ones that perfectly suit Xeoma, so this camera is supported. The Fisheye Dewarping module is also available – it is available for any cameras that can work in Xeoma.
