Camera questions

Q: I have 5 Wansview (supported) cameras on my home network. I have been able to add each of them to another third-party software successfully but want to use yours

A: If you try Xeoma at home, in the same network with the cameras, they must be found with xeoma’s regular scanning that is launched at start.

If you’re trying Xeoma from away, then there are some more complicated procedures, best described at https://felenasoft.com/xeoma/en/articles/add-a-remote-camera-in-xeoma/

So I suggest to start with testing Xeoma in the same “home” network with the cameras.

Q: I am trying to set this up while still working on my regular job. I’m in the tech business so it’s been a little frustrating to me that I couldn’t just figure it out.

Xeoma has over 100 features and it’s easy to get lost in its many opportunities. Maybe you just need to see the intro video to get the insight on how to work with it. Here’s a not-so-short guide for Linux, but it’s a great show-off of the logic and interface: YouTube video

Q: I have used the “+” sign a couple of times. Xeoma immediately finds my computers camera / microscope. I don’t want to use that.

A: It’s only the thing with the Trial version that resets settings in a while. Once you have an active license, your choice will be remembered. Besides, you will not need to re-scan the network – you will do it just once, and then use the cameras found.
So it will suffice to remove the USB cam once. If you change your mind, it will wait for you in the “+” menu.

Q: This morning, I had to click the button for “another trial” and now I’m stuck on this screen and clicking the “check mark/ ok” button did nothing…at first. After a while it worked.

A: It might take some time. But anyway, the problem must be resolved once you’re using a demo or a regular license.

Q: Clicking on “+” and choosing “Simple search for local cameras” shows a message in the bottom right with an “Additional search: XX percentage”
This is a very slow search and there is no indication that it’s even working. After doing this a few times I see that id does progress, but I wondered if it was working.

A: The speed of scanning depends on many factors, and as they change every moment, it’s impossible to predict the time of search from the start.
However, you can start working not waiting for the end of the search.
Besides, the cameras that are found, are added to the screen instantly.
ONVIF cameras are prioritized and are added within the earliest 2-5% of the search.

Q: When the search fines the first camera, the USB microscope, which I don’t want, how do I tell it to skip it for other cameras?

The search continues even if it finds and adds some cameras. See the progress bar on the right.

Q: How do I see if the search found other cameras? Only having clicked the “check mark/ok” button can I remove that window. AND THEN I have to click the “+” button again to begin the search again. I think, I have to do this each time to see if finds the next or another camera.

A: All found cameras are either added to the main screen, or listed in the window you get when you hit the “+” button.
It’s better to see that the search is over (no progress bar on the right) before launching a new search.

Q: Apparently the “trial” or “free” version will not allow me to set up a grid to see if I have added more than one camera??

A: Trial and Free are two different editions. If you mean the Trial that you get by default, the one with 8-hours reset time, then 99% of features are available there, including the grids. The grids are only available if you have several cameras added. There is no point in a grid if you only have 1 camera.
You can see the tutorial in our video

Q: I could go on about having to figure it out, but I think you get the point. A short tutorial sure would be helpful.

A: Xeoma has over 100 features so there is no short tutorial that could possibly cover all of them. But we have our extensive User Manual that you can search through for the answers, and our video tutorials page too.

Q: I still have not figured out what, if any package I need to purchase for a simply home security set up with more than 4 cameras. I have not been able to locate the cost for Xemoa or if it’s a one-time fee or a subscription paid yearly.

A: For 4+ cameras with recording you can choose between Xeoma Standard or Xeoma Pro licenses. See prices and purchase here

Q: We are currently running Xeoma Standard 18.7.10 with the licenses. We would like to add support for one additional camera. Would you please advise on the type of purchase we should do? We believe the choice of a new Standard license for 1 camera would be the right one, but want to be sure it will integrate correctly with our 18.7.10 version.

A: Yes, I’m delighted to confirm that a new Standard license will combine with licenses that you currently use (Xeoma Standard). So you can purchase the new Standard license safely, add it to your currently used licenses, and they will combine to give you an opportunity to add one more camera – in older version 18.7.10. as well, not just in new versions of Xeoma.
